The aim of the Nutrition and Dietetics Service at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) is to assist in optimising individual’s health, nutritional status and quality of life through good nutritional care.
The Nutrition and Dietetics Service provides a range of specialist nutrition services to inpatients and outpatients.
The dietitians provide nutritional support and dietary education to those patients who require nutritional intervention as part of their medical treatment. This may involve nutritional assessment, development of nutritional care plans, provision of therapeutic diets, conducting nutritional counselling and education to clients and/or carers, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of care plans for inpatients and outpatients.
The Nutrition and Dietetics Service also works closely with the Catering Service at Osborne Park Hospital to ensure the quality of meals are maintained are and that the dietary requirements of patients are met.
Dietary counselling is providing in the management of a range of medical conditions including:
- Allergies and food intolerances
- Diet related metabolic disorders
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Heart disease
- High cholesterol
- Infant and child feeding problems
- Kidney disorders
- Liver disorders
- Tube feeding
- Weight reduction
Puree to Perfection Manual Available
The Puree to Perfection manual aims to assist hospitals and aged care facilities in the implementation of an attractive and nutritionally superior menu for people requiring a puree diet. The manual contains a three-week menu, corresponding recipes and nutritional analysis, a training demonstration and guidelines to implement the system into any catering setting.

Inpatient Referrals are accepted from hospital medical staff at OPH. Referrals can be made by phone, fax or by paging the dietitian servicing the specific unit or ward. Response time to inpatient referrals is usually within 24 hours (excluding weekends).
Outpatient consultations are only available to patients with a written referral from their GP and who live within the NMHS region. Download the Dietetics Referral Form PDF | Word. There is no cost associated with the consultation. Priority will be given to patients/clients in high-risk categories. An appointment letter will normally be sent to the client within 10 working days of the referral being received. Outpatient clinics are provided at Osborne Park Hospital.
