The aim of the Nutrition and Dietetics Service at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) is to assist in optimising patients' health, nutritional status and quality of life through good nutritional care and to empower members of the community to optimise health through good nutrition.
Services Provided
The Nutrition and Dietetics Service provides a range of specialist nutrition services to inpatients and outpatients.
The dietitians provide nutritional support and dietary education to those patients who require nutritional intervention as part of their medical treatment. This may involve nutritional assessment, development of nutritional care plans, provision of therapeutic diets, conducting nutritional counselling and education to clients and/or carers, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of care plans for inpatients and outpatients.
The Nutrition and Dietetics Service also works closely with the Catering Service at Osborne Park Hospital to establish nutritional specifications and monitor meal delivery standards encompassing the dietary needs of patients admitted to OPH.
A wide range of diet therapies are available in the management of conditions such as:
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Diet related metabolic disorders
- Liver disorders
- Weight reduction
- Allergies and food intolerances
- Tube feeding
- Cancer
- Malnutrition
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Kidney disorders
- High cholesterol
- Infant and child feeding problems
- Pregnancy.
Puree to Perfection Manual Available
The Puree to Perfection manual aims to assist hospitals and aged care facilities in the implementation of an attractive and nutritionally superior menu for people requiring a puree diet. The manual contains a three-week menu, corresponding recipes and nutritional analysis, a training demonstration and guidelines to implement the system into any catering setting.

Included in the Puree to Perfection manual are laminated colour photos of all meals prepared using the manual.
Only a limited range of food molds have been demonstrated to keep preparation simple. However as you become more confident and proficient with puree food molds, the range can be broadened to increase the aesthetic appeal of puree meals for recipients.

Referrals
Inpatient Referrals are accepted from hospital medical staff at OPH. Referrals can be made by phone, fax or by paging the dietitian servicing the specific unit or ward. Response time to inpatient referrals is usually within 24 hours (excluding weekends).
Outpatient consultations are only available to patients with a written referral from their GP and who live within the NMAHS region. Download the Dietetics Referral Form (PDF, 30 Kb). There is no cost associated with the consultation. Priority will be given to patients/clients in high-risk categories. An appointment letter will normally be sent to the client within 10 working days of the referral being received. Outpatient clinics are provided at Joondalup Community Health Centre and Osborne Park Hospital.

Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.
