Occupational therapists are allied health professionals who have completed a four year academic and clinical education in a Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy).
Occupational therapists work with clients to improve or maintain the client's function and independence in any aspect of their daily life which has been affected by disease or disability.
Hours of Service
The Occupational Therapy Service is available from Monday to Friday during the core hours of 8.30 am to 4.30pm. Occupational Therapy appointments are available on request from 7.30am - 5.30pm.

Clients living in the northern suburbs should ask their GP to refer them to the Osborne Park Hospital Occupational Therapy Service. For those living outside our catchment area we can forward their referral to the appropriate health service.
Occupational Therapy Service Areas
The Osborne Park Hospital Occupational Therapy Service provides assessment, rehabilitation and equipment to the:
- Wards 3 & 4
- Day Hospital
- Parkinson's Disease Clinic
- Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT)
- General Medical patients (Ward 5)
- Surgical / GP patients (Ward 6)
- Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP).
Occupational Therapy Intervention
Assessment and intervention includes:
- Functional retraining in activities of daily living
- Training in alternative strategies and techniques to improve safety and independence in everyday activities
- Rehabilitation to improve functional independence
- Hand and upper limb therapy and splinting
- Home assessment
- Meeting independence, safety and access needs through recommending equipment, training, and structural modifications
- Falls prevention strategies
- Wheelchair and seating prescription for mobility, positioning for function and pressure care
- Perceptual and cognitive retraining
- Joint protection and work simplification techniques
- Education training and support for client and carer.

Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT)
ACAT has an Occupational Therapist who provides a home assessment service. This service is available to clients over 65 years who have been referred to the service by their GP.

Parkinson's Disease Clinic (PDC)
The PDC Occupational Therapist assesses the impact of Parkinson's disease symptoms on the client's abilities and provides intervention to improve function and safety. The Parkinson's Disease Clinic provides a service to clients over 65 years who have been referred by their GP.

Day Hospital
An Occupational Therapy rehabilitation service is provided to Day Hospital clients 65 years and over who have been referred by their GP.

Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP)
CAEP is a Disability Services Commission funded program. The CAEP Occupational Therapist provides assessment, training and provision of equipment to people with long term disabilities. Clients may require a GP or specialist referral depending on the equipment required. Equipment needs must be considered basic and essential to meet the client's functional need within their home environment.

Surgical / GP Inpatient Services
The Surgical and GP Occupational Therapist provides assessment (on the ward and at home), training and provision of equipment via a referral from ward staff member.

Inpatients on these wards are all offered occupational therapy intervention.

Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (SRU)
The Stroke Rehabilitation Unit Occupational Therapist provides specific and detailed assessment, intensive rehabilitation and provision of aids and equipment for patients admitted to the Ward 5 Stroke Unit.
