Volunteers sew support for patients at Osborne Park Hospital
Osborne Park Hospital Sewing Group volunteers Ann, Helen, Jan and Mary.
A talented group of volunteers at Osborne Park Hospital is helping improve the patient experience one stitch at a time.
The hospital's volunteer sewing group creates a range of handmade items that support patients and clinical teams across the hospital, from wheelchair and walking-frame bags to therapy resources used in rehabilitation programs.
Working closely with allied health staff, the volunteers not only sew specialised items, but help design and develop many of their own patterns to meet the unique needs of individual patients. The group regularly collaborates with clinicians to create practical solutions that support patient care and recovery.
Volunteer Helen said one of the most rewarding aspects of being part of the group was knowing their work helped others.
"We get together and have a laugh, and it feels good to volunteer and have a purpose with what we're doing," she said.
The group's creations include therapy aids designed to support rehabilitation, along with practical items requested by staff to improve comfort and independence for patients. Many of these products begin as an idea from a clinical team member and are then refined by the volunteers into a finished design.
Through their creativity, generosity and dedication, the Sewing Group is an invaluable part of the hospital community.
Their handmade creations support patient care in practical ways while reflecting the generosity and community spirit that volunteers bring to Osborne Park Hospital every day.
