OPH patient highlights meaning behind Patient Experience Week 29 April 2025 In celebration of Patient Experience Week, which runsfrom 28 April to 2 May, Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) Amputee Service patient Tom shared his story on how our staff helped him both physically and mentally in his recovery. Tom’s medically journey beganin 2018 after he scratched his two big toes while swimming with his grandkids at a local swimming centre. He is now a bilateral above knee amputee. Tom was found to haveHereditary Vascular Disease, complicated by Type 2 diabetes and psoriatic arthritis. Four days after that initial incident, Tomwas on antibiotics and eight weeks later his right leg was removed as afourth amputation.Little did Tom know that this was just the beginning of a five-year health journey thatwould challenge him physically and mentally. “The goal was to prepare me for a world of prosthetic legs," he said. Meet Haematology and Oncology nurse Olivia 10 February 2025 With a range of nursing opportunities currently available at Sir Charles Gardiner (SCGH) and Osborne Park Hospitals, Olivia shared what she loved most about working as a nurse at SCGH and why others should join the team. After moving to Perth from the United Kingdom in 2023, Olivia joined the SCGH Haematology and Oncology nursing team. "When I got here and told people that I will be working at ‘Charlies’ everyone told me what a great hospital it is to work for - so I was really excited to start," she said. "I have now been working at SCGH for just over a year in Haematology and Oncology, and my experience so far has been amazing," she said. Osborne Park Hospital entry road closures 20 and 21 December 16 December 2024 Osborne Park Hospital entry road closures 20 and 21 December Car park access at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) will be modified when the City of Stirling undertake road works on Dennis Street and Osborne Place from 7am to 7pm on 20 and 21 December. Stage 1 works – Friday 20 December OPH’s main entrance road, ambulance entry road and Car Park 5 access road from Osborne Place will be closed during the roadworks. Signage and detours will be in place for patients and visitors to gain access via an alternative route. The main entrance doors to the hospital will remain open. The back entrance to Car Park 5 will remain open for temporary drop off and pick up only (see Figure 2 below). Transperth bus route 427 bus may be affected during the works. Spreading awareness of fall risk factors 18 November 2024 Throughout November, nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy staff across Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Hospitals (OPH) are championing the 2024 No Falls November campaign and spreading awareness about fall risk factors for older adults. OPH Falls Specialist Physiotherapists Jess Davies and Simone Tam and A/Senior Occupational Therapist Faye Baker are part of a collaborative team of allied health professionals and volunteers driving falls prevention programs across acute and community settings.
