    Aboriginal cadet inspired to continue a career in WA health 19 November 2020 Physiotherapy patients and staff at Osborne Park Hospital have embraced the skills and experience Jiah Reidy has brought during his 12-month cadetship with the hospital’s Physiotherapy Department. Jiah started an Aboriginal Cadetship Program with North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS) this year in his final year of studies at the University of Western Australia and will soon complete a Bachelor of Science Double Major in Sport Science and Exercise and Health - all while fitting in sporting commitments as a player for the Swan Districts WAFL team.     Celebrating NAIDOC Week at OPH 10 November 2020 Staff at Osborne Park Hospital celebrated the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoplefor NAIDOC Week 2020 (8-15 November). The Wesley CollegeMoorditj Mobdelighted staff with an Aboriginal dance performance that showcased their culture and heritage. We also unveiled artworks, donated by Dr Barry and Margaret Vieira, that depict the six Noongar Seasons and will be displayed in the meeting rooms with the same names. Aboriginal Artist Justin Martin presented his artworks and told staff the stories behind each of the seasons and the elements he included in each piece. ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ is the theme for NAIDOC Week 2020 which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.     Medication Safety Week trophy winners 2020 06 November 2020 Staff across our OPH and SCGH sites recently participated in the annual Medication Safety Week competition vying for the coveted trophies for 2020. Congratulations to our winners - Ward G54 from SCGH and the Women’s and Newborn Service (WNS) at OPH for achieving success. Staff from G54 put in a huge effort with nursing, medical, pharmacy, allied health and support staff all participating and subsequently submitting the most correct entries to the puzzle. Special mention to G62 and G73 who also put in strong efforts this year. Many thanks to the SCGH catering department for donating Rejuvon8 Café coffee vouchers to the winning ward.     Occupational Therapy Week 2020 29 October 2020 The Occupational Therapy (OT) Departments at SCGH and OPH are celebrating Occupational Therapy Week (26 October – 1 November 2020) . This year's theme is “Rebuild, Recover, Reengage and Reconnect”. Occupational Therapists are a vital part of the care teams at SCGOPHCG as they assist our patients to regain independence in daily living activities and live safe and meaningful lives in their home environments following an injury, illness or while living with long term health conditions. This can be achieved through rehabilitation, education and modifications to the home environment.
