"I have received continuous support from the team and really feel this was essential in my career progression," Abbie said. With guidance of the team, Abbie was able to complete further training such as Hospital Advanced Life Support within her first year of her qualification, which allowed her to obtain crucial skills. "These opportunities have laid the foundation for my continued professional development and progression towards senior nursing roles within the ward," she said. National Volunteer Week 18-24 May 18 May 2020 The Friends of Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) have unfortunately been off-site during the past few months due to the pandemic. Staff at OPH have really missed their smiling faces and ‘can-do’ attitude where nothing is too much trouble. Fast forward to the beginning of May and the need for our daily coffee fix has been redeemed - two of our lovely volunteers, Pat Milne and Carole Dalling (both qualified baristas), recommenced selling coffee from the “Coffee Corner”. Both volunteers have completed the AHA Hospitality COVID-19 Hygiene Course and are glad to be back making a difference to our staff, patients and visitors to our hospital.

New garden bench for OPH Indigenous garden 04 May 2020 As part of the OPH Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Group’s commitment to acknowledging the traditional owners and providing a culturally responsive environment, an Indigenous medicinal garden also known as Anthony’s Place was planted outside K Block in November 2019. The garden, a place of quiet reflection and sanctuary for all members of the community to enjoy, has been named after Anthony Ninyette, a proud Aboriginal staff member who has tended the OPH gardens for 14 years. Sharon Burke A/Coordinator of Nursing thanked the Balcatta Men’s Shed for building the park bench which is the perfect addition to our indigenous garden. She also acknowledged the City of Stirling and Bunnings Osborne Park for donating the plants and assisting with planting the garden. “It is extremely warming to have community groups working together and being so engaged and willing to be a...
  • WA guide dog and handler
Visiting assistance animals in NMHS hospitals 29 April 2020 To coincide with International Guide Dog Day, celebrated this year on 29 April, the NMHS hospital network has produced a Visiting Assistance Animals guide (PDF) that recognises the importance of assistance animals and welcomes their use, where appropriate, in our facilities. The Guide provides information about the use of assistance animals in our hospitals and arrangements that may need to be made for patients, visitors and their assistance animal. International Guide Dog Day acknowledges the critical role that guide dogs and assistance animals play in enabling people with impaired vision to get around safely. It’s amazing what a difference four paws, a wet nose and a wagging tail can make in assisting vision impaired people, as well as people with other disabilities, to safely experience freedom and independence. The owners of these extraordinary dogs celebrate their loyalty and ...
  • Care Opinion Australia logo
Care Opinion - Above and beyond service at OPH 20 April 2020 Care Opinion (external site) is an online platform that enables members of the public to tell us about their experience with our services. This information is used to improve services and to recognise staff and teams who may go above and beyond our patient's expectations. OPH's Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff recently received some wonderful feedback from a grateful senior patient via Care Opinion. "I am a senior who has a disability and am reliant on heavy-duty crutches to enable me to be mobile within my home. One broke and a frantic call to CAEP (Community Aids and Equipment Program) OT, Debbie at Osborne Park Hospital started this rescue mission. I believe she sent an urgent email to Dean, Senior Physio, who located another pair of crutches. He asked his staff if anyone could drop them off to me on their way home. Anita then drove, I believe an extra 40 minutes after wo...
